Lymph
drainage therapy aids in the recirculation of lymph,
allowing faster healing, less infection
Swelling has long been a concern for both physicians
and their patients, whether the swelling is due to plastic
or reconstructive surgery, orthopedic surgery, diabetes-related
wounds, radiation or venous insufficiency.
Lymphedema is an accumulation of lymphatic fluid causing
abnormal swelling in the arms, legs, feet, breast, abdomen,
neck or head. Lymphedema develops when lymphatic vessels
are impaired or missing (primary) or when lymphatic
vessels are damaged or lymph nodes are removed (secondary).

What is lymphatic therapy and how can it
help you?
Lymphatic therapy is a proven safe and effective method
used to remove impurities from your bodys lymphatic
system. There are no adverse side effects. Lymphatic
therapy consists of gentle, hands-on Manual Lymph Drainage,
compression bandaging, compression stockings and sleeves,
skin care and therapeutic exercise to improve the flow
of lymphatic fluid. Benefits include:
- Reduction of many types of edema
& lymphedema
- Tissue regeneration, including
burns, pre-/postsurgical scars, venous ulcers
- Improved venous conditions, through
decongestion and compression
- Alleviation of chronic pain due
to swollen tissues
Manual Lymph Drainage
(MLD) is a gentle manual treatment technique, which improves the activity of the lymph vessels and re-routes the lymph flow around the blocked areas into more centrally located lymph vessels that drain into the bloodstream. Hardened fibrotic areas are softened.
Compression Therapy
Increases the tissue pressure and is applied between treatments to prevent re-accumulation of lymph fluid. In Phase 1 of the treatment compression therapy is applied by special short-stretch bandages, in Phase 2 by garments which the patient are worn daily.
Exercises
Decongestive exercises as well as proper breathing techniques aid the efforts of the joint and muscle pumps. These are performed while
wearing the compression bandages or garments.
Skin Care
Infections are a very common and
serious complication of Lymphedema. You will be taught meticulous
skin and nail care. Therapy can not proceed until all infections,
bacterial or fungal, are under control.
